I have to admit, as much as I LOVE digging for records, I rarely get a chance to hit the shops as much as I need to. Here’s a few reasons why:

Reason 1.) It’s expensive.
Reason 2.) It’s very expensive.
Reason 3.) I’m lazy and I find it much easier, to figure out ways to rework samples I already have.

That said, when I do actually get a chance to hit the shops, in my head I really try to go for the gusto. So last weekend me and my boy D. Hit a few shops in Manhattan, copped this D.C. Larue record that was crazy with the disco synth work. I also snagged a couple of other pretty rare gems that I won’t be revealing…HAHA.

I was pretty happy with what I found and actually surprised that the price point wasn’t as high as I presumed it would be. THAT IS, until I decided to play around in the Hip Hop section. Bad Idea(in a good way). This is where I stumbled on this EXTREMELY rare Slum Village record. Crazy thing is it was sitting right on the front of the stack! Basically, the story behind this record is that it’s a bootleg that some how showed up in the UK before Goodvibe pressed it up. As far as I know Interscope doesn’t have any Slum Village in their catalog, but the Interscope logo pops up all over the vinyl labels. Weird.

Also, there is a slightly different track list:

A1 Intro (1:17)
A2 Conant Gardens (3:12)
A3 I Don’t Know (2:25)
A4 Jealousy (4:05)
A5 Climax (3:12)
A6 Hold Tight (3:11) Featuring Q-Tip
B1 Tell Me (4:38) Featuring D’Angelo
B2 What’s It All About (3:35) Featuring Busta Rhymes
B3 Forth And Back (4:26) Featuring Kurupt
B4 MMM…? (3:49)
C1 Fall In Love (3:47)
C2 Get This Money (3:31)
C3 CB4 (3:47)
C4 Once Upon A Time (5:53) Featuring Pete Rock
D1 Players (2:26)
D2 Eyes Up (4:36)
D3 2U 4U (2:58)
D4 We Be Dem (2:03) Remix
D5 Go Ladies (4:03)
D6 Outro (0:34)

Cost for this record: $8.00!!! Probably because the cover was a little beat up. The records are CLEAN though. In any event, this is most definitely a collectors piece and after finding it, I had to know what else they had hidden in the shop so I went through the entire Hip Hop section. Ended up finding like 5 more OG pressings of SV and Dilla singles, EPs, and test pressings. Kind of goes without saying but I ended up spending a lot more money than I wanted to. Good thing I love good music.

***Side note, shouts to everybody who’s been showing love on my F.I.R.S.T. instrumental project. Much Appreciated!
