Wale inks it up with Interscope records.

First check out a little behind the scenes before the announcement with Just Blaze here:
Then read the full story over here:

Man, I’ve got to say that I wasn’t really sold on Wale when I first heard his music a few years ago. But After his last lash of mixtapes & promo cuts, I’ve come around full circle. Dude can SPIT. And he talks about REAL situations. I’m excited to see where he’ll take this music thing. He’s always been about putting D.C./MD/VA (DMV) on the map so I’m hoping Interscope doesn’t suck that aspect out of his character. This marks a second major move for D.C. music after my homie Osinachi just recently signed with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins’ production team. I feel like this might be the start of something big so let’s see what happens.

R.I.P. Static. 1976 — 2008.

I’m taking a small step away from Production today to talk about the loss of one of today’s best song writers. Stephen ‘Static’ Garret. This dude wrote CLASSICS for damn near everybody in Timbaland’s camp from Ginuwine(Pony, So Anxious), to Aaliyah(Are You That Somebody, Rock the Boat, More Than a Woman). He’s done work with Destiny’s Child, Truth Hurts, Jamie Foxx and tons more Read More »

It’s Fantasticly too expensive!

Slum Village Its Fantastic 2

I have to admit, as much as I LOVE digging for records, I rarely get a chance to hit the shops as much as I need to. Here’s a few reasons why:

Reason 1.) It’s expensive.
Reason 2.) It’s very expensive.
Reason 3.) I’m lazy and I find it much easier, to figure out ways to rework samples I already have.

That said, when I do actually get a chance to hit the shops, in my head I really try to go for the gusto. So last weekend me and my boy D. Hit a few shops in Manhattan, Read More »

Nottz Presents DMP. Oldy but Goody.

Nottz Presents DMP.

Nottz dropped this VA classic a few years back in 2005 as a Mixtape / “Street Album.” Call it what you want. This joint is pure heat . Top notch production across the board on this one. I don’t know what Nottz does with his hi-hats but its something out of this word. I’ve never heard a thicker hi-hat that sounded as crisp as the ones he uses all over this album. On top of that the MC’s are all nasty. Reminds me of some M.O.P. mixed with Flipmode circa ’98. DMP stands for “Durte Muzik Prahdukshun” which is exactly how this joint sounds. Peep the sample below. Sex, Love, Heartbreak & Birthdays

The homie D. is turning 25 today and he has a super dope love talk and slow jams style mix available for download (I’m a week late; I know), There‘s a slue of R&B classics and Soul rarities all mixed together to make one hell of a banger. There’s also a section in there where theres nothing but Dilla originals. Do I need to mention again that this dude has it all on VINYL? Listen  Below. Read More »

Happy Birthday Dilla.

Dilla

The late great producer, J Dilla — The best to ever do it died just under two years ago from complications of lupus. Quite easily the most influential hip-hop producer of all time. I don’t really need to say much about him but for those that don’t know. R.I.P. Read More »

Bishop Lamont… get familiar

Written by . Filed under Blog. No comments.

Living out here in NY sometimes its easy to get locked in Box, listening to the same MC’s over and over again. But this dude Bishop Lamont is coming out L.A. and hittin’em HARD. Definitely, a dope MC that actually talks about something worth listening to. He’s signed with Dre and Aftermath so he can pretty much get his hands on any producer he wants. He’s got beats from everybody from DJ Khalil to Black Milk to Dr. himself. Here’s links to his last three mixtapes that are flat out better than most dudes’ albums these days. Clear out some hard drive space and enjoy… Read More »

Too Good to Sample Part 1.

Azymuth – Self Titled

Every now and then I come across records that are just too good to go through and chop up for my own use. Sometimes, good music just needs to be left alone. Periodically, I’ll be posting up records that are too good to chop up. Here’s Part 1. Read More »

BOOGIESCO.

BOOGIESCO.

Out of everybody that I know personally, my homie D. hands down has the sickest record collection. Compared to most diggers, his collection is rather small, but I don’t think many people have as much pure heat in their stash. It’s a shame he doesn’t make beats. Anyway, the other day, he put together this mix of Boogie / Disco joints which is quite literally called Boogiesco (Get it? A mix of the words Boogie & Disco…HAHA). It’s incredible from start to finish so go grab a listen. Read More »
