I’m taking a small step away from Production today to talk about the loss of one of today’s best song writers. Stephen ‘Static’ Garret. This dude wrote CLASSICS for damn near everybody in Timbaland’s camp from Ginuwine(Pony, So Anxious), to Aaliyah(Are You That Somebody, Rock the Boat, More Than a Woman). He’s done work with Destiny’s Child, Truth Hurts, Jamie Foxxand tons more. Static had even had recently worked with Lil Wayne on his singles “Lollipop” and “I Got My,” as well as TQ’s new single “Paradise,” featuring Krayzie Bone.I think his best work can be found on Playa’s 1 and only album “Cheers 2 U” where he switches roles between producer, writer, and singer. The album easily makes my top 5 R&B albums from this era which is why this loss really hits home for me. Send your condolences to his myspace page.
I know I’m a little bit late with this but as of yet there isn’t any information explaining the cause of death but most people are saying it was a brain aneurysm. Stephen ‘Static’ Garret died unexpectedly on Feb. 25th 2008 at the age of 32. Yet another brilliant mind that’s been taken too soon. R.I.P.
R.I.P. Static 1976 — 2008.
