I have to admit THOR has definitely been one of the toughest Reason racks to learn. I thought the Malstrom had a lot of knobs/buttons but Thor probably has twice as many. I’ve been rolling with the presets and them tweaking to get the sound that I want but I always wanted to know how to build sounds from scratch with this thing. Luckily Propellerhead has some really good tutorials on how to flip THOR without causing a headache. Peep the links below.
Also, I just realized that since this site has been up I have yet to post any sounds of my own for other Reason heads to mess around with. When I get a good amount of decent THOR patches made, I’ll be putting them up for free in the download section. I been slacking, I know.

So why Reason, & not the ASR-10, MPC, SP1200 etc. Not that I’m too familiar with equipment for producers, I just rarely hear a producer say I’m working with Reason, its normally the aformentioned equipment.
I first started using Reason (1.0) because I wasn’t sure about spending tons of money on a big machine not knowing if I was going to be a wack producer…LOL. It ended up being one of those things where once you learn on it, it’s hard to give it up. I first started making beats with Reason with the idea that I would eventually evolve into using the MPC or some huge work station machine. But as I started to get better I realized the switch wasn’t worth the learning curve or the $$$.
I also think a lot more people use it that don’t want to admit to it. In certain situations using software for beats is still looked down upon (in Hip Hop especially!). But with Just Blaze, Will-i-Am, 9th, Khalil, Khrysis, etc. banging their beats out on the computer people will start coming out with it a lot more.
